La Perla - Collection Fragrances Discovery Pochette - Review

I am very excited to show you the best discovery set of fragrances I have come across so far. It is the discovery set of the fragrances from La Perla Beauty.

This company originally retails lingerie. The fragrances are, accordingly, all feminine leaning and just as beautiful as the lingerie sets, that I could hopefully afford one day.

They are also cruelty-free

The set includes 8x2ml of dabbers. This is a major downside. They spill easily and are tricky to use on certain places. You could also argue that this saves some products since one dab does not release much liquid.
Compared to other brands (some perfume houses don’t even offer discovery sets at all), this set is reasonably priced, which surprised me. They are only 25€.

From left to right, the fragrances are: Invisible Touch, Villa Sorrento, My Day, Once Upon A Garden, About That Night, Just Give Me Roses, Possibilities, Let The Dance Begin.

I cannot truly review the bottles of these, because I do not have them in front of me, but from what I see on the pictures, I would give all of these a 10/10.

I will now review them in the same order.

Invisible Touch:

Fragrance family: floral/powdery/fresh

  • Top Notes: Aldehydes, Pink Pepper, Bergamot
  • Middle Notes: Violet, Ylang-Ylang, Paradisone, Rose
  • Base Notes: Benzoin, Ambroxan, Palisander Rosewood, Patchouli

This was the perfume that I was most interested in before purchasing. I love the freshness of aldehydes in fragrances. This one is pretty, unfortunately I own a fragrance that is pretty similar to this one already (Rose Nue by Les Parfums de Rosine). However, this one is prettier.
Invisible Touch is quite fresh due to the aldehydes in the opening. The violet note is also noticeable for me. Both aldehydes and violet are common notes in vintage perfumes, so one might find the scent old-fashioned. In this one, however, both notes are not overpowering. This is nothing like the aldehydes in Chanel No5 or the violet in Chanel’s Misia.
Even though it is not old-fashioned in my opinion, it has a formal quality. This would be a good wedding scent. I find this too “proper” for everyday-wear.
The Ylang-Ylang in this adds some sunniness into the scent, this note also is not overpowering though.

Scent: 8/10
Sillage: 6/10
Longevity: 7/10
Overall: 7 ⭐️

Villa Sorrento:

Fragrance family: Citrus

  • Top Notes: Grapefruit, Green Mandarin, Blood Orange
  • Middle Notes: Neroli, Citrus Leaves
  • Base Notes: Ambergris, Musk, Woody Notes

When trying Villa Sorrento for the first time, it smells like one thing: fresh grapefruit peel. It has a sparkly quality too. It then dries down to a slightly musky neroli, though it is very faint.  It is the subtlest scent of them all, which is expected for a citrus fragrance.
I am not usually into citrus fragrances, as they have sporty/unisex tendencies that I do not like. I would, however, wear this one. This smells very natural and slightly floral. It is the most beautiful simple summer scent for really hot days.

Sillage: 5/10
Longevity: 6/10

My Day:

Fragrance Family: powdery/floral

  • Top Notes: Carrot Seeds, Calabrian Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Neroli, Tangerine
  • Middle Notes: Orris, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Tuberose, Lily, Osmanthus, Star Anise
  • Base Notes: Iris, Cashmere Wood, Sandalwood, Cedar, Tonka Bean, Vetiver

This turned out to be my favorite from the set. The fragrance is built around the iris. Iris can be quite chalky by itself, but the accompanying notes make this a really cozy fragrance. This is mainly due to the cashmere wood and the sandalwood. It still manages to be sunny due to the citrus notes. People who like Fleur de Peau by Diptyque will like this. It also reminds me a little bit of No22 by Chanel, though more wearable and contemporary.
I can imagine wearing this on a daily basis, I find it cozy enough for the colder months too, even though it is a typical spring fragrance.

Scent: 10/10
Sillage: 7/10
Longevity: 7/10
Overall: 8 ⭐️

Once Upon A Garden:

Fragrance Family: floral/green

  • Top Notes: Mint, Pink Pepper, Mandarin Orange
  • Middle Notes: Sweet Pea, Raspberry Leaf, Rose
  • Base Notes: Moss, Ambertonic, Patchouli

Once Upon A Garden really lives up to its name. It feels like walking into a natural garden near a lake, since the moss note is so strong. The sweet pea lifts this fragrance up and makes it youthful, it adds quite a lot of sweetness. This is not sickly sweet in any way.
Interestingly my boyfriend said it smelled like Coca Cola. The sparkling mint note in combination with the raspberry leaf note might add to that comparison.
This is more of a youthful scent and it would make a great gift.

Scent: 7/10
Sillage: 7/10
Longevity: 8/10
Overall: 7,3 ⭐️

About That Night:

Fragrance family: aromatic/sweet

  • Top Notes: Lavender, Tagetes, Tangerine, Bergamot, Coriander, Lemon
  • Middle Notes: Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Osmanthus, Iris, Rose
  • Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Patchouli, Musk, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Vetiver, Benzoin, Styrax, Oakmoss, Oak

About That Night is the most complex out of the set. This has so many notes, that it is quite overwhelming. I personally find the mixture of aromatic notes and vanilla quite sickly and I did not enjoy smelling it.

Scent: 4/10
Sillage: 7/10
Longevity: 8/10
Overall: 6,3 ⭐️

Just Give Me Roses:

Fragrance Family: Floral

  • Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Saffron, Black Pepper
  • Middle Notes: Damask Rose, Turkish Rose, Bulgarian Rose
  • Base Notes: Virginian Cedar, Musk, Amber, Tobacco, Vanilla

Just Give Me Roses is an edgy rose perfume that has a spicy/smoky turn due to the saffron/tobacco. It is still not a loud scent though. The musk note in here is unusual and rather soapy/creamy than powdery.
This is being compared to Delina by Parfums de Marley, and it might be similar, only thing is that it is not sweet at all, which is why is prefer this one.
It is not easy to find a non-sweet feminine fragrance for the colder months, but I would personally consider this.

Possibilities:

Fragrance family: floral/fruity

  • Top Notes: Freesia, Black Currant, Pink Pepper
  • Middle Notes: Rose, Rose Water, Petalia, Orange Blossom
  • Base Notes; Cashmere Wood, Vanilla, Ambergris, Akigala Wood

Possibilities is another rose-centered fragrance, and it is just so beautiful and so elegant. The black currant note is strong and sweetens it a little bit. The cashmere wood makes it cozy. The mix of all the notes makes it suitable for all seasons. This is the perfect scent to make a good impression on a first date, it is a fragrance to fall in love with.
The mixture of floral and fruity notes may make it seem generic, but it is really exceptional. Perhaps anyone would find your scent pleasant, but it might be offensive by how beautiful it is lol.

Scent: 10/10
Sillage: 7/10
Longevity: 8/10

Let The Dance Begin:

Fragrance Family: woody/spicy

  • Top Notes: Cardamom, Davana, Black Pepper, Pink Pepper, Neroli, Bergamot, Orange
  • Middle Notes: Cinnamon, Caramel, Geranium, Damask Rose, Tuberose, Ylang-Ylang
  • Base Notes: Cashmeran, Cedar, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Patchouli

This might be one of the most mature scents out of the set. This combines a cozy woodiness with a confident spiciness. Since the woody notes are most noticeable, I do not find the name fitting in this case.
I do not detect any sweetness whatsoever, despite the caramel note. The spices are not overly festive, the perfume is suitable for fall as much as winter.
Although this has many notes, just as About That Night, Possibilities is not overwhelming at all and well-rounded.

Longevity: 8/10

Final Thoughts

This is the best discovery set of fragrances that I have ever tried. La Perla is such an underrated brand for the fact that their quality is top notch AND cruelty-free.
I will be definitely purchasing at least one of the fragrances in full size in the future.
If you like softer-leaning feminine floral fragrances, you should definitely give this brand a try.
